Pompey the Great

Pompey the Great was a famous Roman statesman and military leader. After Ostia was sacked by pirates in 68 AD, Pompey was tasked with driving the pirates out of the Mediterranean. Pompey’s response was swift. In less than two months the western Mediterranean was clear of pirates and trade lines with Spain and Africa secure. Pompey was a hero in Rome for his decisive action. However his fame did not last and he was later stabbed to death during a civil war.
