The Kizilburun shipwreck

The Kizilburun shipwreck was off the coast of Turkey in the
Aegean sea at some point in the first century BC. The ship was transporting stone. Included in the cargo and surviving to this day were 8 marble columns and a number of marble blocks thought to be gravestones. There were also tools, including axe heads and chisels, metal cauldrons and ceramic cookware. There were many cups and bowls glazed in the Hellenic tradition. The ship was thought to have been travelling from the marble quarries on the island of Proconnesos in the Sea of Marma to the Temple of Apollo in Claros.
