While there is evidence all over the Mediterranean coastline of the Roman seas, the best evidence often comes from the discovery of shipwrecks. These wrecks afford us an insight into the materials and methods by which the Romans built their ships, as well as the maritime routes they favoured. Although there are many shipwrecks yet to be discovered, the small list I have compiled here demonstrates some of history’s most infamous Roman wrecks.
